Whimsical Fairytale Garden Theme Sets the Stage for Heartfelt Moments at the 15th Annual EMM Luncheon

With a whimsical fairytale garden theme, the 15th Annual Each Moment Matters Luncheon (EMM), held on September 13, came close to reaching its goal of raising $600,000 for the Faith Presbyterian Hospice (FPH) Caring Fund. These crucial funds support benevolent care for unfunded patients, children’s bereavement services and the specialized care known as the “Faith Difference,” which includes music therapy, massage therapy and pet therapy.

This year’s luncheon was emceed by WFAA’s Jason Whitely and co-chaired by accomplished philanthropists, Katie Townend Doherty and Katherine Wyker, whose dedication made this signature fundraising event truly special.

The event also celebrated the release of Christy Cashman’s debut novel, The Truth About Horses, which was met with heartfelt praise from readers and the equestrian community. The novel’s moving exploration of loss, grief, family dynamics and hope has touched the hearts of many and tied in beautifully with the hopeful theme of the luncheon.

Alongside an inspirational speaker, nine remarkable individuals were honored for their outstanding contributions to the Dallas community. The 2024 honorees were: Arnie Holtberg, Brad Hunstable, Courtney Underwood, Dudie James “Dudie” Thomas, Pam Altizer and Pam Southern, Patrick Walsh, Randy Bowman and Wendy Van Bemmel. You can read about their incredible work here: Meet the Honorees.

One of the most touching moments of the luncheon was when Forefront Living CEO, Tim Mallad, shared the heartfelt story of FPH patient and magician, Steve “the Sleeve” Schniederman, whose final wish was to receive one last standing ovation. After showing a moving video in which Steve expressed what such recognition would mean to him, the audience was treated to one of his magic tricks. In a beautiful gesture, the entire room rose to their feet in applause for more than a minute. Later that day, a video of the standing ovation was shared with Steve, who expressed how deeply honored and touched he was by the fulfillment of his wish.

The Forefront Living Foundation extends its deepest gratitude to every supporter and volunteer who helped make this year’s luncheon a resounding success. For more information about FPH the T.
