Make a Meaningful Difference: Volunteer at FPH Post date October 28, 2024 Volunteer opportunities at Faith Presbyterian Hospice (FPH) are offered on-site at the T. Boone Pickens Hospice Center (TBPHC) and throughout homes being served by FPH across the DFW area. Read below to learn how you can make a meaningful difference in the life of a patient and their loved ones. Time required is 30 minutes to one hour per visit. Visits are scheduled as needed. Patient Companion Volunteer – Simmons Inpatient UnitOffer socialization and companionship to FPH patient and/or family member. Volunteers “round” on the patients and typically commit to a specific day each week. Time required depends on patient census. Caregiver Relief Volunteer – In Home/Assisted Living FacilitySit with patient while their primary caregiver tends to appointments, self-care or running errands. Time required is one to two hours and is scheduled specifically with the caregiver as needed. Faithful Paws Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) – In Home/Assisted Living FacilityShare four-legged friends with patients who enjoy the companionship of an animal. Animals must be certified through an animal certification program such as Pet Partners, Therapy Dogs International or other animal certification program. Time required is 30 minutes to one hour per visit. Visits are scheduled as needed. Faithful Paws AAT – Simmons Inpatient Unit at TBPHCShare four-legged friends with patients who enjoy the companionship of an animal. Animals must be certified through an animal certification program such as Pet Partners or Therapy Dogs International or other animal certification program. Volunteers “round” on the patients, spending 15 to 20 minutes with each patient interested in a Faithful Paws visit. Time required depends on patient census. 11th Hour Volunteer – In Home/Assisted Living Facility/Simmons Inpatient Unit at TBPHCProvide a caring presence for patients who are imminent, including emotional and spiritual support as well as comfort measures. Provide support for loved ones of patients who are imminent or in crisis. Time required is a 4-hour shift, weekdays or evenings, between the hours of 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Volunteers are scheduled as needed and often with little notice. Must be FPH hospice volunteer for at least six months. Volunteers are required to complete additional volunteer training. Front Desk Reception Greeter – Simmons Inpatient Unit at TBPHCGreet visitors while creating a warm and inviting environment in the TBPHC lobby. Duties include escorting guests and administrative tasks. Typical shifts are from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 12 – 4 p.m. Shifts are available seven days a week. Floor ConciergeWalk the “Comfort Cart” around the Simmons Inpatient Unit, visiting patients and families. The Comfort Cart includes snacks, water, playing cards, coloring books, phone chargers, etc. Time required is 30 minutes to one hour, depending on patient census. Memorial ServicesServe as greeter and door holder for memorial services held in the TBPHC Spiritual Care Center. Services are scheduled as needed and typically held on Saturday or Sunday. If a volunteer is comfortable with audio/visual equipment, they can be trained to help run the music and slide show during the service. Time required is two to three hours per service and volunteers are scheduled as needed. Faith Kids VolunteerAssist FPH Child Life Specialist with group activities and provide support to children/teens/young adults and/or their caregivers who are grieving the death of a loved one. Faith Kids provides a safe, caring and sharing environment where grieving children can express themselves through words, art, drama, writing or physical play. Time required is the second Thursday of each month, September – May, from 6 – 9 p.m. Bereavement VolunteerMake bereavement calls and send letters to our grieving families. Assist with special events such as Winter and Spring Memorials. Tuck-In CallerMake phone calls to at-home patients to identify needs, confirming they have everything they need going into the weekend. Calls may be made from a volunteer’s home or from our administrative offices. Calls are made on Thursday and the time required is one to two hours, depending on patient census. Administrative VolunteerAssist administrative teammates with copying, filing, making binders, etc. Time required is flexible. Memory Bears VolunteerSew teddy bears using cloth from garments provided by the family. Legacy Building Life ReviewInterview, film and edit a life review DVD for a patient as a lasting legacy for the family. ← Older Posts
