Quantasha “Quanie” Royal has served as a hospice aide in the field for Faith Presbyterian Hospice (FPH) since 2017. She takes pride in providing compassionate care to hospice patients and their loved ones. We sat down with Quanie to learn more about her through a fun question and answer session. Read about this kind-hearted and dedicated teammate below.

What are you passionate about regarding your professional role?
My role as a hospice aide includes helping patients with their daily activities, such as transfers, bathing, dressing and other responsibilities within their care plan, while providing them with comfort and dignity. It’s my goal to offer companionship, not just to the patients we serve, but to their loved ones as well. I am passionate about being present in those moments where I am able to support the friends, families and the patient experiencing the end-of-life journey.

Favorite memory/moment to date during your time at FPH:
Selecting just one is so hard, as I have had the opportunity to work with so many families and patients throughout my years with FPH. I do remember a patient that I provided care for who had not spoken to a family member over a long period of time. I could tell that it was important for him to try to make things right. Just thinking about the memory brings tears to my eyes. Five minutes before my patient took his last breath, the two were able to reunite, reconcile and express the love they still had for one another. That memory will live in my heart forever!

What do you think sets FPH apart from other hospice services?
What sets FPH apart from other hospice providers are the teammates. My FPH teammates put so much time and dedication into the daily care we offer to our patients.

On the weekend, you can find me:
On the weekend I can easily be found with my family or friends. My family is a central part of my life when I am not at work. Working in hospice care for so many years reminds me to cherish each moment, enjoy great food and give and receive emotional support from my loved ones.

Tell us about your hobbies:
I enjoy reading, hosting game nights, listening to music and watching track and field events whenever I can catch them on television. I enjoy being able to live life to the fullest and travel when I have the opportunity.

What are some of your favorite foods and restaurants?
I can hardly choose between steak and seafood, but some of my favorite restaurants are Juicy Seafood and Bar, Perry’s Steakhouse, Longhorn Steakhouse and Krab Kingz. My favorite dish is a medium-well steak along with a baked potato and a side salad. I also love seafood boils which usually include shrimp, crab, andouille sausage, corn, potatoes and boiled eggs. I am a tiny girl with a huge appetite!

What is something that makes you feel proud?
I am proud of being able to wake up daily and provide outstanding care to patients and family members who are going through such a difficult time. It doesn’t get much better than that for me, personally. I love that I am able to make a difference in someone’s life. I am also proud to be acknowledged for the care that I provide and the dedication I have to my job. I really appreciate being recognized by this spotlight!

Share about your family:
My immediate family is mostly full of women! I have one daughter, Za’Kari Green, and she turns 13 in December, just four days shy of Christmas. I am still blessed to have my mom and dad, as well as an older sister and an older brother. I also had an older brother who passed away, at the age of eight, due to a brain tumor. I think that milestone played a major role in my chosen career path. Additionally, I have a niece and two great nieces that I love with everything in me. Every other Sunday, my extended family gathers at my grandma’s house for fun times, laughter and great food.

How would your friends describe you?
I take the role of being a good friend very seriously and I believe that my friends would call me a great friend. I bring loyalty, emotional support, respect and fun into all of my friendships. Creating a sense of worth is essential for building and maintaining strong, supportive friendships. I always strive to make sure my friends feel safe and accepted around me, without the fear of judgment.
